Scouting’s 100th Birthday 1910-2010 -Scout Sunday & Sabbath Activities

Scouting’s 100th Anniversary is a remarkable milestone & we should be celebrating it, all year! I want to strongly encourage all of our units to plan and conduct Scout Sunday, or Sabbath, activities in our local communities, sometime in February.  Scouting’s 100th anniversary week of February 7th through the 13th is the ideal time, but it can be any Sunday during the month.  It is a wonderful way to celebrate and share our scouting heritage with our communities and chartering organizations.  It is the ideal time to present your unit’s 2010 Centennial Charter to your chartering organization.

Family Friends of Scouting

It’s time to schedule your unit’s Family Friends of Scouting presentation.  Without this financial support from our leaders and our scouting families, the Golden Spread Council would not be able to provide the quality programs, training and facilities you expect, for our scouts.  Plan on having a Family Friends of Scouting presentation at your next pack meeting, Pinewood Derby, Blue & Gold Banquet, or troop court of honor.  Call Steve Knollenberg at 580-651-2615, or Audrey House at 580-652-2085, to schedule a presentation that is convenient for your unit.

Cub Leader Training

Every Scout deserves a trained leader!  Cub Scout leader specific training will be offered in Guymon, on Saturday, February 6, 2010.  Time:  Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., course runs from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Location:  Victory Memorial UMC, 6th & Roosevelt Streets.  Please bring a sack lunch.  This training is for all Pack and Den Leaders, plus any Cub parents who would like to attend.  There is no fee for this training!

The Centennial Quality Unit standards for 2010 will require that we increase the number of fully trained Cub leaders, for our Packs.  To prepare for this upcoming Cub Scout Leader specific training, click here Online Training and complete the Youth Protection Training, This is Scouting, and Cub Scout Leader Fast Start Training modules.

This training will teach you how to effectively manage your Pack and run a successful program.  If you haven’t been trained, you need to attend!  Getting your Den and Pack leaders trained will fulfill a requirement for the 2010 Centennial Quality Unit Award.  Click here LW Cub Leader Training, to view the activity flyer.

Boy Scout Leader Specific Training

Every Scout deserves a trained leader!  This training is scheduled for Saturday, March 6, 2010.  It will be held at the Victory Memorial United Methodist Church, 6th & Roosevelt Streets, Guymon, Oklahoma.  Registration is at 8:30 a.m., training begins at 9:00 a.m.  This training is for all currently registered Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters, and anyone who may cross over into one of these positions, from Cub Scouting.

The Centennial Quality Unit standards for 2010 will require that we increase the number of fully trained Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters, for our troops.  To prepare for this upcoming Boy Scout Leader specific training, click here Online Training and complete the Youth Protection Training, This is Scouting, and Boy Scout Leader Fast Start Training.  Click here LW Boy Scout Leader Training, to view the activity flyer.

Trainer’s Edge

Anyone interested in becoming a trainer for the Boy Scouts, or other organizations, should take the “Trainer’s Edge” training, being offered by our Council.  Our District needs more certified trainers.

This adult training develops your skills as a trainer and presenter.  The purpose of Trainer’s EDGE is to provide and develop the skills of a trainer.  Only practice can polish these skills, but the course is intended to “train the Trainer” on behaviors and resources while offering hands-on experience in methods and media.  Click here for more information and to sign up: Trainer’s Edge info & sign-up

Palo Duro Lake Cleanup

The annual Palo Duro Lake cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, March 20, 2009, near Spearman, Texas.  This event is a great time for our district’s units to get together, complete a worthwhile service project and enjoy the fellowship of Scouting.

Normally, troops camp out for the weekend and packs attend for the day.  Packs are welcome to camp out, as long as BSA Family Camping guidelines are followed.  This is a great way for our Cubs to get to see what the “big boys” do, in Boy Scouts.  Click on the “Programs, Training & Activities Resources” link, on the Council webpage, to view the activity flyer.  Please contact Richard Nowlin at rcnowlin@valornet.com, (806-658-4839) or Steve Knollenberg, stevek.bsa@gmail.com (580-651-2615) for more information.

Scouting for Food

Our annual Council Good Turn service project, “Scouting for Food”, has been scheduled for March 27, 2010.  Hopefully, there will not be a blizzard this year!  This is a coordinated, Council-wide, one day service project to give back to our communities.  All Cub Packs, Boy Scout Troops & Venturing Crews are expected to participate.  There will be council-wide publicity for this event, specifying Saturday, March 27th, as the collection day.  More information will be available at the March 2010 adult leader meetings.
