Cub Scout Summer Camping

Thanks to some special volunteers, every Cub Scout had a great opportunity to participate in a Cub camp this summer.  There was something for every Cub Scout.  Special thanks to the great folks helping out with Tiger Twilight, Sarah Chase and Monica Vanzee for making Hereford Twilight camp a great success, and Sarah Chase and Pam Miller (and all of their staff) for providing a great 4 days of Cub Scout Day Camp.  And finally, a special thanks to all the Cub Scout adult leaders and parents who took their time to bring their scouts to camp!  Without you there, these scouts would not have had the great summer camping experience they did.  Achievements completed at Camp Don Cub Scout Day Camp can be found on Golden Spread website.

Eagle Project Reviews & Eagle Boards of Review

Adult troop leaders (not mothers, grandmothers, aunts, uncles, etc.) of Boy Scouts needing either Eagle Project Reviews or Eagle Boards of Review during August should contact Golden Eagle Advancement Chairman Gary Ries at 358-0552 to schedule them.  Our regular schedule of Eagle Project Reviews on the first Thursday of the month at 6:30 pm in conjunction with Roundtable at St. Thomas Catholic Church and Eagle Boards of Review on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 6:30 pm at the Scout Office will resume in September.

August is “Back to the Pack!” Time!

Get this year’s Cub Scout program off to a great start.  Every pack should conduct a “Back to the Pack” activity in August for all of its existing members, especially new Tiger Cub’s recruited in the spring.  The “Back to the Pack” meeting should be prior to your pack’s School Night New Member Recruiting Rally.  The purpose of the meeting is to get returning scouts signed up for the upcoming Scouting year; recruit adult leadership to fill vacancies, and to discuss plans for pack activities for the fall.  We encourage you to make this a fun event by including an ice cream social, watermelon feed, pool party, carnival games, sports activities, etc. The meeting is designed to make sure that your pack is organized prior to receiving new boys and parents.

Amarillo-Area Roundtable

This fall’s Roundtable kicks off on Thursday, September 3rd at 7 pm at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church at 4100 S Coulter. The church is located on the west side of Coulter between 34th and 45th.  Roundtable is for all adult leaders!  Come and get to know your fellow Tiger Cub Den Leaders, Cub Scout Den Leaders, Webelos Den Leaders, Cubmasters, Assistant Cubmasters, Pack Committee members, Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, Troop Committee members, etc.  Come to not only learn about what’s going on in Scouting in Amarillo – but to share your Ideas!  The Roundtable Staff have got an exciting year planned.

It’s time to get outdoors!

Cub Scout Trailblazer Day on Saturday, September 26th, is a fun event for Cub Scouts, especially Tigers, Wolves and Bears.  It starts at 9 am on Saturday and finishes by 4:00 pm.  Scouts will learn about America’s great outdoor heritage with demonstrations of shooting sports, wild game calling, hunting dog training, bows and arrows, fishing, trapping and much more. Make plans now for your scouts to attend.  On the weekend of October 9-11, there will be a Fall Camporee at Camp Don Harrington.  The Camporee is for Webelos Dens and Boy Scout Troops. The Camporee will begin with check-in on Friday evening and end Saturday afternoon.

Every scout deserves a trained adult leader!

To complete Adult Basic Training, Cub Scout adult leaders (all positions) attend Cub Scout Leader Specific Training and Boy Scout Scoutmasters or Assistant Scoutmasters attend Boy Scout SM & ASM Training.  These training sessions will be offered at the Council Office on Saturday, August 29.  Cub Scout Leader Specific Training starts at 9 am and is finished by noon.  Boy Scout SM & ASM Training starts at 9 am and is finished by 4 pm.

BALOO Training for Cub Scout leaders will be offered in conjunction with the Cub Scout Trailblazer Day at Camp Don Harrington on September 26 (9:00 am-4:00 pm).  For more information and registration forms, click on links above.
