Re-charter and unit retention
End of January and we are still chasing down re-charters. PLEASE contact me if you are having issues and I will personally come out to help. I’d like to have all re-charters in by the end of this month so please review where you are in the process and let me know. This is very import to get done because the existence of your unit depends on the re-charter. Please contact me ASAP if you are having issues or questions about the process.
As I said last month, unit retention is vital to the health and existence of your unit. Planning activities to keep the boys fired up will help this. Contact me for resources and attendance issues. I will assist you with providing an exciting program that will keep the boys wanting to come back for more.
Camp Card 2012!
We are about ready to kick off the 2012 camp card and I am super excited about this year’s opportunities. We have many new venders on the card and a few returning for a second year of deals. Cinema 4 inPampa is offering a tear off for one FREE movie admission. Subways inPampa are offering a tear off for a FREE 6 inch sub with the purchase of a 6 inch and a drink. There are several other great deals also. This year Borgerwill have a separate card from the rest of the district. Every unit will have the opportunity to sell thePampa, Borgerand/orAmarillo cards to increase the number of cards sold. PLEASE contact me ASAP to submit your unit’s commitments…..$5.00 a card / $2.50 commission for each card sold. This is hands down a great card and should be an easy sell for the boys.
Family FOS
I still need to schedule your unit’s Court of Honor or Blue & Gold. If you haven’t scheduled one yet, please email me with the date, time, and location. Family FOS is a very important part of our council’s operation…it helps to serve the Adobe Walls district as well. Please help me by making sure I know when your next family activity is so we can give our family FOS presentation.

Eagle Scout Project Reviews and Eagle Scout Boards of Reviews- Updated 2/2/12
The next Eagle Service Project Review Board will be held on February 9th at St. Luke Presbyterian Church – Remember, only NEW workbooks will be accepted. If a scout shows up with anything other than the new workbook, his project will NOT be approved.
Location: St. Luke Presbyterian Church, 3001 Bell Street in Amarillo, Texas. (0.36 miles north of the intersection of 34th & Bell Streets) (GPS Coordinates: 35.181414, -101.900849)
Please park on the south side of the church and enter through the south doors. The church is handicap accessible.
Eagle PROJECT Review Boards are held the SECOND Thursday of each month at 6:30pm.
Eagle RANK Review Boards are held the THIRD Thursday of each month at 6:30pm.
—- New Eagle Project Workbook
The new BSA Advancement Guidelines (BSA Publication #33088) state that the NEW Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook must be used. During the Fall of 2011, we had the option of accepting the old or new version of the workbook, but as of January 1, 2012, ONLY the new workbook will be accepted for new Eagle Service Projects. In addition, the Board will no longer accept “homemade” workbooks.
“9.0.1.2 Prepare the Eagle Scout Service Project Workbook
The most current workbook must be used. It can be found at http://www.scouting.org/forms.aspx. The workbook shows the project proposal was approved ahead of time, and then properly accepted by all parties when finished. Ideally, it will be a proud reminder of a significant accomplishment.“
Several applications have been seen recently that were completed in pencil. This reflects poorly on the candidate. The “fillable PDF” is the preferred method, but pen and ink is also accepted.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me. (eaglereeves@gmail.com or liam.mcpherson@live.com).

January marked the first annual BB Gun shoot out. We had several hundred Cub Scouts that participated. It was great! What a great response and already shopping for new locations to host an even larger event. Fun was had by all with training seminars and then shooting in the standing position, prone position, and sitting or kneeling position.
Now we need to send out a Big Ol’ “WAY TO GO”, for one of Quanah Parkers own, Kagen M. from Pack 39 in Dumas. He won 3rd Place over-all. WOW!! Keep up the good shooting Pack 39!!

Great job to all who participate in funding local scouting with Friends of Scouting Campaigns. Funding for Scoutreach programs, and camps is needed more than ever this year. Please contact me directly to setup an FOS Presentation at your Blue and Gold Banquet or Court of Honor. Thank you again!

9 – District Banquet
District Dinner
The District Dinner will be on February 9th at 6:30 at the VFW in Clarendon. This will be instead of the February Roundtable. At this dinner, the District Award of Merit will be presented. Make plans to attend this annual celebration of Scouting. Please RSVP by Friday 3rd to Gaylyne or to our Council.
Unit Recharters
Most of our Santa Fe Units were rechartered on time. Congratulation sto the units that have accomplished this! There is still a couple that hve not completed this process yet. All of these unit charters expired on December 31, 2011. If your charter has expired our Council cannot post any advancements for your Scouts. It is critical that we complete this process as soon as possible! Call me if you need help.
Family Friends of Scouting
Without this financial support from our leaders and our scouting families, Golden Spread Council would not be able to provide the quality programs, training and facilities you expect for our scouts.
Camp Cards
The camp cards will be available on March 17th. Most towns in Santa Fe have 2 vendors per town, along with McDonalds and Sonic. This fundraiser will allow your boys to earn much needed money for camp or other activities. This is a great, easy fundraiser that creates NO risk for the unit but you will reap huge benefits.
2012 Merit Badge University
Santa Fe had 5 out of 8 Troops go toMerit Badge University. It was great to see so many of our Scouts and leaders at there! Don’t forget to finish any remaining requirements and get the signed, completed merit badge cards, and advancement reports, submitted to theCouncil Service Center. However, your unit must be rechartered to do this!

Over 500 Scouts and Scouters filled the three shows of the Scouting Rendezvous Weekend at the Kiva! The Kwahadis wish to thank all of the folks who came out!
The Kiva is often filled with Scouts from across America during the summer months on their journeys to mountain camps, but it was more special having the Kiva filled three times with area Scouts!
We had to turn away a few unit reservations because there was no room left, and for some the weekend just didn’t work. If there are Scouting folks who would like to come see the museum and winter show, we will be happy to have you as our complimentary guests on January 28, 29, February 10, or 11, for the 7:30 pm shows.
Reservations are important to ensure seating. Just email me direct with your unit and count of people, and we’ll set it up for you. Individual families can call the trading post (806-335-3175) and identify themselves as “SCOUTING VIPS!”
Injury Reporting
Unit-level volunteers must report to the council any incident that requires treatment beyond Scout rendered first aid. If, say, a cut finger or a twisted ankle is treated on site, no report is needed. If a cut finger requires a visit to the doctor and stitches, the report must be submitted along with any relevent photographs, doctors’ forms etc. The incident form is located at the link below or on our web site in the forms (safety) section.
