12- District Committee and Commissioners Meeting
Happy New Year!
Well, we made it to 2012. I am excited for a new year to grow scouting even better than 2011. I will need everyone’s help and energy to get continue this drive. My resolutions this year are 1) Form an Adobe Walls District Committee that will drive the district in the right direction. 2) Fill all vacant unit commissioner spots to help all the units with operations. 3) Have a successful Camp Card and Family FOS campaign. 4) Develop a district activity that will help unit and get everyone excited to be in the Adobe Walls district. I will need everyone to help me with these goals/resolutions. It isn’t for me though….this is for the young men and boys of our district. Please jump on board and lets have a great 2012.
Family FOS:
Yes, it is that time of year. I need to schedule each unit’s Court of Honor or Blue & Gold as soon as possible. Please email me with the date, time, and location. Additionally, I will be calling over the next week to verify contact information, and to discuss camp card 2012. Family FOS is a very important part of our council’s operation…it helps to serve the Adobe Walls district as well. Please help me by making sure I know when your next family activity is.
Re-charter and unit retention:
Most of Adobe Wall units have completed their unit re-charters. This is very import to get done because the existence of your unit depends on the re-charter. Please contact me ASAP if you are having issues or questions about the process.
Also, now is the time to fire up your unit and keep the boys active and interested. Unit retention is important to the health of your unit. Please contact me if you have attendance issues. I will assist you with providing an exciting program that will keep the boys wanting to come back for more.
Let have an awesome 2012!
Eric B.

Family Friends of Scouting
It’s time to schedule your unit’s Family Friends of Scouting presentation. Without this financial support from our leaders and our scouting families, the Golden Spread Council would not be able to provide the quality programs, training and facilities you expect, for our scouts. Plan on having a Family Friends of Scouting presentation at your next pack meeting, Pinewood Derby, Blue & Gold Banquet, or troop court of honor. I have some Units scheduled, but need 100% of all units to participate.
Camp Cards
Well it’s that time again and Santa Fe Camp Card is in the making now. This year we will have our own card I am working to get at least one vendor in every town plus I am hoping to have McDonalds and other chain vendors on it as well. If you didn’t participate in 2011 you really missed out on a fantastic opportunity and hope you will consider participating in 2012. I will be contacting you soon to discuss the program with the key unit leader and get a commitment to sell the cards. This is a great program that creates NO risk for the unit but you will reap huge benefits.
GET TRAINED!
When you are trained it makes it a lot easier for you to get involved and do things right; and the boys get a better program and a better experience. All the necessary training is online at https://myscouting.scouting.org/. If you need your Scouting ID in order to log in, please to contact the Scout Office at (806) 358-6500. Also, there will be additional training during the year so pay attention for dates and sign up.

We are excited about 2012 and will continue to offer the best youth program possible.

Report to the State Opportunity
The 2012 Annual Report to State Parade and Ceremony has the theme of “Prepared for Life”.
As they have for the past 63 years Scouts from throughout the State of Texas will converge on Austin on February 4, 2012 to participate in the Annual Report to State Ceremonies and to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scouts of America.
Scout units from throughout Texas are invited to participate in the parade and to take advantage of the wonderful education opportunities that are available by visiting the state capitol and the many other institutions and museums found throughout the City of Austin.
The annual event will begin with the gathering of delegations and units at the Congress Avenue / Ann Richards Bridge. Thousands of Scouts will parade up Congress Avenue to the Capitol Building where the delegates will give a report on the service accomplishments of Scouting in their council in the Chambers of the House of Representatives. The parade starts at 9:00 am and units assemble on the bridge between 7:30 am – 8:30 am.
This is a wonderful opportunity for Scouts to participate in a Texas Scouting tradition surrounded by their fellow Scouts, leaders, and dignitaries of their State. Don’t miss this great Scouting event. For additional information on how your unit can participate contact the Scout Service Center or visit the Capitol Area Council website at www.bsacac.org.

Guide to Advancement Update
The revised “Guide to Advancement” is now the official BSA source on advancement the biggest such revision in about 20 years. This change brings clarity and easy-to-read advancement details to Scouts, Scouters, and parents.
Among the many revisions in the guide, there is an important change to the Eagle Scout project requirement. This proposal allows Scouts to get approval on his project and then complete the final plan later.
